This is the much anticipated 2017 San Francisco Limited Edition Silver Proof 8 Coin Mint Set. The US Mint did us collectors a huge favor this year by coming out and saying that they were only going to mint 125,000 total proof silver eagles with the “S” mintmark. There will only ever be 125,000 2017-S Proof American Silver Eagles. 50,000 are from this set (the other 75,000 were from the Congratulations Set). This kind of number represents a fraction of the normal proof Silver Eagle mintage – most proof Silver Eagle Mintages are from 400,000 to 1.4 million. If you look at the mintages of Proof Silver Eagles over the years, 125,000 represents the third lowest mintage ever and the second lowest mintage of regular proof strikes. Needless to say, the two lowest mintages Silver Eagles. (the 1995-W and 2011-P Reverse Proof). Of course, I’m just talking about 1 coin.
