The 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter was celebrated by the Royal Mint, releasing 4 coloured 50p Coins, another 4 being released in 2017. About the Coin: Beatrix Potter’s mischevious Tom Kitten appears on the reverse of this coloured silver proof coin. This is the second series of Beatrix Potter coins and only 40,000 of these coins have been produced. 1 The first and only official UK coin to feature Tom Kitten 2 Struck in 925 sterling silver and finished to Proof standard 3 Enhanced by colour printing 4 Presented in a clear acrylic case This coin has an error on it when it left the Royal Mint. This is a One-Of-A-Kind error in the minting process. The printed component on the coin has been rotated to the right , you can see from Tom’s ears that the colour has spilled over to the right of his ears (and also his face). Some coins have left rotation of the print, this is the only one I’ve seen with right sided print offset. This coin is a rarity, that collectors would have a keen interest in. This series has to be one of the most beautifully presented and desirable sets The Franklin Mint has ever undertaken. The set began by releasing individual pieces starting in 1973 with the first solid sterling silver coin’First Manned Flight 1783′. They would continue to release the coins over time with only six in the first year ending in 1977.
